My final year project is about building up a DJ mixing event using self produce techno music which, through the event, brings the audience into a Hong Kong theme base psychedelic experience. Psychedelic parties or events were often related to drug use and illegal activities for people to escape reality and step into the illusional world. However, a Psychedelic event is not as superficial as just doing drugs but for people to find identity and a form of sub-culture that is indicatable to be part of the culture serve for a highly developed city. These underground parties are well recognized in western societies such as Berlin, London, Detroit, and New York. The reason I choose DJ mixing and production as my final year project is that I find it difficult to local my identity in Hong Kong after coming back from my two years of study in Germany. The lost feeling in the concrete forest is a good theme for a psychedelic event and Hong Kong’s unique feeling of loss deserves a suitable medium to transfer.
